NTSD has written Know, Understand, and Do (KUD) Organizers and Student Learning Maps (SLM). We refer to these as our Power Curriculum. The curriculum writing process that was used is as follows:
Prioritize the standards as essential, important, or compact for the grade level or course
Write KUD’s based on this. It is also helpful to think of topics or units that course can be broken into.
Write SLM’s from the KUD’s
Review the KUD’s and SLM’s making editions and revisions
Actualize the curriculum and “publish” it via the Toolbox for everyone to use.
Once complete KUD’s and SLM’s are completed for the year and we will revise them in curriculum revision meetings.
Northern Tioga School District uses a 2 year cycle for data/instructional analysis, curriculum review, and program purchase. The graphic below depicts the two year cycle.
