Williamson High School is truly unique among Northern Tioga High Schools. Our junior-high students benefit from a self-contained middle school program. Being the largest attendance area, Williamson provides a plethora of rigorous academic and extra-curricular opportunities for its students in a well-structured environment. The district was awarded a "Classrooms for the Future" grant from the state which enabled WHS to implement advanced technology in its social studies, math, science and English departments. Through its PSSA scores, Williamson has met the state required Annual Yearly Progress for six consecutive years.
Part of the strong academic curriculum offered at Williamson includes ACE courses in engineering, composition, statistics, chemistry, biology, government, art, and calculus. Students can take advantage of affordable college credits from Corning Community College that transfer to many institutions of higher learning around the country. WHS also offers honors English from ninth to twelfth grade, advanced biology, and advanced chemistry.
WHS provides an excellent vocational curriculum that includes various culinary classes, pre-engineering courses, an on-site preschool for community children through the child development program, wood and metal shop, small engine repair, accounting, "My money, My business," singles living, and sponsors an elegant Community Dinner. The Physical Education and Health department utilizes a state-of-the-art fitness center that incorporates both weight and aerobic workouts. WHS has developed a robotics course and competes yearly in the Alfred State Technology Competition.
The Student Services Department is available to all students, faculty, staff, and parents at Williamson High School. Learning Support teachers primarily provide academic support and accommodations to eligible students in the general education setting and may also team-teach in select academic courses. Williamson is also home to the district's Middle and Secondary Life Skills, Secondary Autistic Support, and Multiple Disabilities Programs which are designed to provide eligible students with functional academic instruction and experiences along with direct instruction and practice for the development of improved daily living skills. Related Service Providers, including School Psychologists, Social Workers, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists are also available.
Williamson possesses a strong fine arts department that includes Spanish, band, jazz band, marching band, chorus, select chorus, drama, school newspaper, and many art courses.
