The document is available for public inspection at the School District's Administrative Offices, Monday through Friday, from May 15, 2009 to June 15, 2009 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. or via the following link: 2009-10_Proposed_Final_Budget.pdf. This final budget is scheduled to be approved at the school board meeting to be held on June 15, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the Administrative Offices, 117 Coates Avenue, Elkland, Pennsylvania. Last July, the state legislature approved Act 61 of 2008, which provides the component of a six year funding formula for local education funding. The law contains the following statement of intent: "In furtherance of the general assembly's long-standing commitment to providing adequate funding that will ensure equitable state and local investments in public education and in order to enable students to attain applicable federal and state academic standards, it is the goal of this commonwealth to review and meet state funding targets by fiscal year 2013-2014." Based on this funding plan the Northern Tioga School District will receive a 9.07% increase in basic education subsidy. In this proposed final budget, the Board of Directors is counting on the legislature following through with their plan for adequate funding, therefore, has included the Governor's original proposed 5.14% increase in subsidy and plans to utilize some of these funds to improve instructional opportunities for our students. For those of you who would like to see this plan for adequate funding implemented, which would alleviate pressure on local property taxes and improve important instructional programs for students, please contact your state legislators.
